Dapper Derby Update #5
The Kentucky Derby brings people from around the world to Louisville. There is so much behind the scenes leading up to the races. Champions Day is a day that brings attention to the unsung heroes, the significant women in the racing industry.
"Countless women have played important roles in the horse racing world, from Diane Crump to Rosie Napravnik, to Laska Durnell and Penny Chenery. Women have been instrumental in contributing to the advancement and success of the sport. Champions for Change 2022 will focus on celebrating women in racing, highlighting females breaking down barriers in the industry."- Kentucky Derby.
Champions Day will feature five separate panels with different women who will share their acquired experience and wisdom.
Panel 1 (1:00 PM - 1:30 PM) – Owners & Breeders

Although Kentucky is known for its bourbon, there is a fantastic event centered around wine coming back to Louisville. The Kentucky Proud Kentucky Derby Festival WineFest returns May 3 from 5:00-9:00 pm at the iconic Louisville Slugger Field (401 E Main St Louisville, KY 40202).
"Sip and savor over 100 local wines from Kentucky and Southern Indiana wineries at Kentucky Proud WineFest. For the first time, WineFest will take place at Louisville Slugger Field, where you will be able to walk the concourse while sipping on your favorite wines."-Eventbrite.

That wraps up the events on May 3. But don't spend all your energy all at once, because on May 4 is the liberty financial great steamboat race! This long-standing tradition is one of the best staples leading up to the Derby. This year's event will host a race between 3 iconic steamboats. The Belle of Louisville, Belle of Cincinnati, and American Duchess will race for a "14-mile course on the Ohio River that starts and finishes at the Clark Memorial Bridge."- Lanereport.
"Boarding for the Great Steamboat Race will take place from 4:30 to 5:30 pm with all the boats departing the shore at 5:45 for a 6 pm start. The Awards Ceremony will take place immediately following on the Chow Wagon Stage at Kroger's Fest-a-Ville on the Waterfront. Tickets for the Belle of Louisville are sold out but to purchase tickets for the Belle of Cincinnati, call (800) 261-8586."-Lanereport.
